I think Albert Schweitzer said it best when he said “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” I believe that having a life of gratitude is key to happiness. You can see where I am going with this, gratitude = happiness = success.
Success is living the life we desire and choose. For most of us this is going to involve a series of unique dreams and goals that will change as our life seasons change.
The first point was that grateful people achieve more, grateful people have better odds at living the life they desire. The recipe for this is blending 12,13,9 which reduces the chances of 3 and ultimately allows us to create balance between life domains we place value on and our individual goals. Have gratitude and take care of your body. It will thank you later.
The second thing I want to draw attention to is the importance of others and belonging. We can’t go it alone. We need others at different aspects of this journey and as the old adage goes we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. So if we engage, give to others in authentic ways and we get along with others, we find help and friendships in places that we need. And as an added bonus if we aren’t spending our time managing difficult relationships we can find the time we need for innovation and creativity in our lives.
I challenge you if you do not already have a gratitude practice, you start one today. It can be simple but intentional. Mine is very simple - everyday, as part of my morning routine, I write down in my planner at least one thing for which I am grateful for.
